As the third largest K-12 school district in the nation serving over 450,000 students across 640 educational facilities, Chicago Public Schools is perpetually renovating, expanding and building new education facilities. In order to maintain a high level of consistent quality and equity throughout the district, CPS has established a comprehensive series of design and construction facility standards. These standards which have developed and evolved over the years have resided across a series of disparate documents.

C|ZDS was tasked by the district to consolidate these documents and augment with our institutional knowledge from a decade of serving CPS Capital Planning & Construction into a draft version. This document is the initial step in the update and reorganization of the CPS Design and Construction Standards, the first undertaking of its kind in ten over years.
