18 Annex Projects

Chicago Public Schools

Chicago Public Schools developed major additions to eighteen elementary schools over the course of three years. These projects, ranging from one to four stories with a total budget of over $300 million, serve a dual purpose: to relieve overcrowding and provide significant programmatic enhancements to the existing schools.

New program spaces included art, science, and computer labs, STEM labs, classrooms, libraries, gymnasiums, kitchens and dining facilities. Incorporated into the projects were targeted renovations of the existing educational spaces, accessibility upgrades, and exterior envelope improvements.

While each project presented unique challenges, many included extremely tight sites and poor soil conditions affecting not only the building footprint but the associated site development.
